"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves." ~ Chief Seattle 1854

American Indian Tribes gave names to each of the full moons to keep track of the passing year. The names are associated with the entire month until the next full moon occurs. Since a lunar month averages 29 days, the dates of the moons change from year to year.

Full Wolf Moon (Great Spirit Moon)
January 6, 2023 (6:08 p.m. EST)In January (or the first full Moon after the winter solstice), it’s easy to picture packs of wolves howling at the Moon outside the villages in Europe and North America, as the winter’s rigors deprived the animals of food.

Full Snow Moon (Sucker Fish Moon)
February 5, 2023 (1:29 p.m. EST)The second full Moon of the year. The winter is still alive and well and the snow covers everything. The Ojibwe named this Moon after the sucker fish, an important resource for their winter survival.

Full Worm Moon (Hard Crust on the Snow Moon)
March 7, 2023 (7:40 a.m. EST)As the temperatures begin to rise, the snow melts and the earth softens and becomes mud. Worms begin to crawl in the ground, heralding the return of birds, which will feed on them. Also called the Sap Moon, because it’s the time to tap the maples for their sap.

Full Pink Moon (Maple Sap Boiling Moon)
April 6, 2023 (12:35 a.m. EDT)Attributed to the growth and blossom of the moss pink. Other names for this season make reference to flowers, eggs, fish, and the return of spring.

Full Flower Moon (Budding Moon)
May 5, 2023 (1:34 p.m. EDT)In May, spring is typically in full force, and various Moon names recognize the budding and blooming of flowers. Other names for this Moon make reference to the period when corn should be planted.

Full Strawberry Moon
June 3, 2023 (11:42 p.m. EDT)Strawberries are ripe and ready to be picked. The Ojibwe and many other tribes use the same name for this Moon. This month promises a feast on easy food provided by Mother Nature.

Full Buck Moon (Mid-summer Moon)
July 3, 2023 (7:39 a.m. EDT)Buck’s antlers are growing at full force during this Moon. Also called Thunder Moon because thunderstorms are common during this time of the year.

Full Sturgeon Moon (Ricing Moon)
August 1, 2023 (2:32 p.m. EDT)The sturgeon fish catch will peak during this moon. For the Ojibwe, this Moon marked the season to harvest wild rice, an activity with cultural and ritual importance.

Blue Moon
August 30, 2023 (9:36 p.m. EDT)In a year with 13 full Moons, one of them is dubbed a blue Moon. See below for more on two ways to define blue Moons, but note that this particular full Moon is "blue" by either definition. (While this name is not Native American, it is included here for completeness.)

Full Corn Moon (Leaves Changing Color Moon)
September 29, 2023 (5:58 a.m. EDT)Also called Harvest of Fruit Moon, this is the Moon nearest to the autumnal equinox and can happen in October or September. At this time of the year, the fall crops are ready to be harvested.

Full Hunter’s Moon (Falling Leaves Moon)
October 28, 2023 (12:24 p.m. EDT)This is the best time of the year for hunting. The game is fat after a summer of eating and fattening for the winter. Many trees have lost their leaves and the fields are free of the crops that might have served as a hideout for prey. Also, it’s the right time to start storing food and furs for the winter.

Full Beaver Moon (Freezing Moon)
November 27, 2023 (5:16 a.m. EDT)This month’s Moon makes reference to the right moment to hunt beavers for their furs for the winter.

Full Cold Moon (Little Spirits Moon)
December 26, 2023 (8:33 p.m. EDT)In December, the cold returns and the closes the cycle. The long nights bring back the snow and it’s time to gather by the fire.

The Yule Season: Winter Solstice ~ New Year's Day

The Twelve Days of Yuletide: A History
Now, I know that we all sing about the Twelve Days of Christmas, but you might not have realized that the pagan celebration of Yule is twelve days long, starting with the winter solstice on December 21 and ending on December 31.
(Christmastide is also twelve days long from December 25 through January 6th —Epiphany.)

THE BALANCE TIPS TOWARDS WINTER, AND WE ARE REMINDED THAT EVEN IN OUR DARKEST AND COLDEST HOUR, LIGHT AND WARMTH CAN STILL SHINE THROUGH

Picture

The gift of light we thankfully take
But not shall it be alone for our sake
The more we give light
The one to the other
It shines and it spreads and it glows still further
Until every spark by friends set aflame
Until every heart with Joy to proclaim
In the depths of our souls a shining sun glows.

Solstices are especially notable, as they mark the longest and shortest days of the year. In essence, they signify how life on Earth changes in connection to the Sun and how our seasons shape our world. When a solstice occurs, the Sun reaches its absolute highest or lowest point relative to our celestial equator.
What Does Yuletide Celebrate?

Beginning with the Winter Solstice celebration, Yuletide kicks off with a celebration of the lengthening amount of sunlight that we welcome as we move away from the day with the least “daytime” during the year. Indeed, nearly every celebration has origins invoking the rebirth of the sun or the sun god in some way. This is also referred to as Mother’s Night, honoring the Mother Goddess (& the coming of spring) along with the protective female ancestors who watch over us.

Yuletide concludes with the celebration on the Twelfth Night, which often coincides with the modern New Year celebration—full of revelry, food, and drink. The Twelfth Night is also associated with the burning of the greens for good luck. This is not directly attributable to pagan culture or Yuletide, but seems to be linked more to Christian Epiphany. (However, I liked the timing of this so much that I adopted it as part of the pagan culture’s Twelfth Night in my Circle of Nine series.) Modern pagans often have a Yule tree as part of their celebration, although it is noted that pre-Christian pagans would likely not have done so. Instead, they would have only cut boughs of evergreens for decoration within their homes. These may have been left up until Imbolc at the beginning of February when they would have been removed and possibly burnt.

Other traditions that were initially part of the pagan or pre-Christian festival of Yule have come to be part of the Christmas tradition, including the use of holly and ivy and mistletoe as decorations, the burning of the Yule log, and gift giving, which was an important part of the Roman Saturnalia festival. And, of course, songs were sung in celebration at the time of the winter solstice and throughout Yuletide.

Here’s a Yuletide Carol to wish you a Blessed Holiday Season – whichever way you celebrate this special time of year!

With every purchase we make, we are given a choice. Not only about what we want to put on or in our body, but who and what we want to support, and what defines us as a person and as a community. In addition to creating the best natural skin care possible, we are committed to creating a better, more sustainable and beautiful world. All of our products are made with the  freshest and finest ingredients and love! Thank you for supporting my small business. ~Evelyn Brugger
Our Goat Milk Soap  has a creamy smooth texture that is a fabulous moisturizer and nourishing for the skin with excellent foaming and lather.Goat’s milk is naturally high in vitamins and minerals and rich in butterfats which makes it the perfect moisturizer. Vitamin E, which is the skin’s best friend, is found in abundance. If we do use dyes in some soaps, they are vegetable and plant based or mica. We use only Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils which means the scent is never overpowering, but very faint. With some Essential oils it is barely noticeable, however the benefits are there nonetheless.

Please note that our holiday soaps have various wrappings. They are wrapped with Japanese or Italian specialty papers which are sometimes hard to come by and contribute to the end price of these beautiful Peace Medallions ~ Spread some Peace around!

Ingredients: Coconut Oil, Safflower Seed Oil, Glycerin(kosher, of vegetable origin) Goat Milk, Purified Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Sorbitol, Sorbitan oleate, Oat protein, Titanium Dioxide and  Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential OilsAqua, Glycerin, Goat's Milk, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Laurate

The Benefits of Our Luxury Goat Milk Soap

1.Goat milk soaps contains alpha hydro-acids, high proteins and vitamins that are well known for whitening, softening and rejuvenating the skin and its medicinal qualities prevent skin allergies, winter itches, eczema and psoriasis thus giving you the complete skincare you need.

2.What is the benefit of using goat milk soap? Goat milk soap is a gentle, traditional soap with many potential benefits. Its creaminess lends well to conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and dry skin, as it keeps skin nourished and hydrated thanks to its non-stripping properties.

3. In addition to lactic acid, “goat milk contains fatty acids that help repair the skin barrier, probiotics to encourage the growth of normal skin flora, and vitamin A to help gently exfoliate,” says Dr. Purvisha Patel, a board certified dermatologist. Those fatty acids also contribute to noticeably softer skin.

Benefits of using goat’s milk soap for eczema
Goat’s milk soap hasn’t been extensively tested for use as an eczema treatment. Here are the proven benefits of goat’s milk soap and how they might play into eczema treatment.

Goat’s milk soap is a natural exfoliant
Goat’s milk contains lactic acid, a naturally occurring and gentle alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA). Lactic acid is even in some commercial-grade skin peels because of how effective it is at exfoliating and encouraging cell turnover. Cleansing your skin with goat milk soap may help dissolve dead skin cells, revealing healthy, younger skin cells underneath.
Goat’s milk soap contains probiotics
Lactic acid from goat milk also contains probiotics. Oral probiotics using lactic acid bacteria have been shown to help treat eczema in infants. Since these probiotics found in the lactic acid found in goat milk was an effective topical treatment in infants, it might be worth a try.

Goat’s milk soap keeps skin moisturized
Lactic acid doesn’t just add probiotics and exfoliate your skin. Lactic acid in goat’s milk, combined with the natural fats and oils in the milk, are a natural humectant. That means that goat’s milk soap may strengthen your skin barrier and seal moisture in. Skin that’s well-hydrated may be more resistant to eczema flareups.

November Blood Moon & Lunar eclipse

Everything to Know About November's Beaver Blood Moon
November's full moon will mark the last total lunar eclipse until 2025
Skyler Caruso
Published on November 7, 2022
"What do full moons and ballot boxes have in common? They'll both be active on Election Day this year! If you're setting out early on Nov. 8 to cast your vote, be sure to cast your eyes to the sky as well because this month's full moon will take place just before sunrise on Tuesday morning. Known as the Beaver Moon, November's natural satellite will produce quite the celestial spectacle. Not only will it be full, but it will be considered a blood moon due to its positioning in relation to the Earth and the sun.

Earth's shadow will cover the moon due to its perfect alignment between the sun and the moon, causing it to take on a reddish hue. This formation is called a total lunar eclipse, a rare phenomenon that isn't set to take place again until 2025!

Between why it's called the Beaver Moon and when you can spot it in the sky, here's everything to know about November's full moon this year.
Why is November's full moon called the Beaver Moon?Historically, many of the nicknames we use for full Moons come "from Native American, Colonial American, or other traditional North American sources passed down through generations," according to The Old Farmer's Almanac.
November's full moon is widely known as the Beaver Moon. According to NASA, one interpretation stems from the idea that beaver traps were set up mid-autumn before the swamps froze to ensure warm furs were secured for the winter ahead.
In addition to the Beaver Moon, other names for November's full moon include the Frost or Frosty Moon and the Snow Moon due to the icy formations that often set in around this time of the season, particularly in North America.

What makes the Beaver Moon a blood moon?
The Beaver Moon will be considered a blood moon this year as a result of the total lunar eclipse that will be in effect. Since the Earth will fall in the middle of the sun and the moon, the planet's body will cast a shadow on the orb, giving it a reddish, coppery hue.

"To me, the most significant thing about a lunar eclipse is that it gives you a sense of three-dimensional geometry that you rarely get in space — one orb passing through the shadow of another," Bruce Betts, the chief scientist at the Planetary Society, told the New York Times."
When to view the Beaver Moon? The Beaver Moon reaches peak illumination on Nov. 8 at 6:02 a.m. ET, the same day as Election Day. But if you value your sleep and rather not set your alarm clock before sunrise, you can catch a glimpse of the full moon the night prior just after sunset. One of the best parts about the lunar phenomenon? You can witness its beauty with the naked eye, so no telescopes or binoculars are needed. Avoid areas with light pollution, lie down on the ground and point your eyes to the sky for the best views.
Even better? If you situate yourself near the horizon, that's when the moon will appear its biggest and brightest! From 5:16 a.m. ET on, the moon will continue to set as the eclipse goes on — so be sure to catch it earlier rather than right before the sky becomes brighter as dawn arrives.
When is the next full moon in 2022? December's full moon is called the Cold Moon. It will reach peak illumination on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2022." ~Skyler Caruso

September New Moon ~ A Time for new beginnings

9/25/2022

"AUTUMN IS A SECOND SPRING WHEN
EVERY LEAF IS A FLOWER
"~Albert Camus

Picture

Dear Friends of Raven Hill Botanicals,

We just celebrated the Autumnal Equinox on September 22, 2022! Here in Montana, we received a much-needed beneficial rain that quenched the dry earth of fields and forests. Montana and the West have been in a severe drought, so all welcomed the rain!

Today is the New Moon on September 25, 2022 ~ A day of new beginnings that ushers in renewed hope. I am excited to announce that we will have a limited-time run of most of my best-selling products, including facial skincare lines, body lotions, body butters, salves, lip balms, and soaps!

Last year in December, I sent out a newsletter  with the news that I would be closing my doors. However, I heard such an outcry from my customers that I thought I should re-access my options and see if I could save the business at some level. Customers voted on their favorites and urged me to continue if I were able to do so.

Over the years, I have carefully developed each formula in my repertoire with my customers in mind. My brochure states that Raven Hill Botanicals is a cottage industry born out of the need to lead an existential life in nature, surrounded by beauty and nature's bounty. It was also out of the need to know what was going into my body and skincare products, and I assumed others might feel the same.

With every season, the process adds a dimension, a layer to the process. One cannot simply stop foraging in the forest for herbs, flowers, and berries. It is impossible to have an herb garden and not make the base infusions from the harvested herbs. Summer is my busiest season of full-time gardening, roaming the meadows and forest glades in search of medicinal herbs and berries. It is a part of me that is so engrained after more than 40 years of doing it. It is my passion! ~ I am responsible for each step of the process, from the herbal infusions to the bottling, labeling, and marketing of the products—all of this I do alone without assistance and on a minimal budget. As hard as I try to market with all of the limitations and supply, worldwide shipping and sourcing issues have only exacerbated the situation. It was not sustainable for me to continue. I had only continued on the last couple of years because of my stubborn tenacity and for my loyal customers who depend on my unique formulations. It quickly became apparent, especially to my skincare customers, that they could not find a suitable, affordable natural botanical skincare. Nothing matched the quality of my two Skincare lines: SIRIUS and LUMINOUS Skincare and my Body Care Products.

With this in mind, I will offer, for a limited time through the end of this year, a trial period to see if I have enough of a customer base to continue offering these exquisite facial skincare and body care products. (October - December) I can only make small batches and am severely restricted to the number of supplies I can order; therefore, it limits my output. Also, I do not have the website at total e-commerce capacity for financial reasons. That means that I can only offer flat rate shipping. I only have local delivery on the Square Store: raven-hill-botanicals.square.site

At my regular website: www.ravenhillbotanicals.com
I will continue taking orders as well. There, you can read further descriptions of the products and see their complete ingredient lists and the ingredients' properties.

(I am waiting on the bottles and other supplies for the skincare lines, so they should be available by October 1, 2022, I hope.)

Don't hesitate to get in touch with me at info@ravenhillbotanicals.com

Have a Happy Fall!
For customers who have my number, please give me a call.

I wish you Peace and Love!

Dear Friends of Raven Hill Botanicals,
In December, I sent out a newsletter with the news that I would be closing my doors. However, I heard such an outcry from my customers that I thought I should re-access my options and see if I could save it, or at least save it at some level. After Christmas, I usually take some time off for much-needed rest and recovery after the long holiday season. This year has been doubly hard for me after the loss of my dear mother, and it has taken me longer than usual to get to this matter of my little cottage industry. The story of my business began seven years ago. On January 1, 2022  I entered the eighth year of business. I thought that a full seven years was a good long run for a business into which I have poured my heart and soul. We are already into February, and I apologize for not getting this newsletter out earlier. If I try to resurrect my business or a part of it that has the most interest, I would greatly appreciate your feedback in order to know if I should try to keep it going.

Many of my skincare customers are wondering when I will be able to get inventory in stock. Things may change, as far as bottling and packaging, but rest assured, it will be the same quality product you are accustomed to receiving. Do not hesitate to contact me at info@ravenhillbotanicals.com or by responding to this newsletter.

I was feeling very devastated by the decision to end the business. I have always felt so wholly invested in it. Still, I needed to do something soon because I have significant expenses with the website coming due again with the e-commerce for the year and reinvestments into supplies for running the business. It is amazing what it takes even for a cottage industry like mine, but dealing with every aspect of a business without help is part of the issue. I was hoping to be able to branch out and have needed some representatives, but with the on-going pandemic everything has been even more difficult. There was a great outpouring of love from my customers pleading with me to find a way forward and then came the award from LuxLife. So I find the next step will be to find out people's favorites and preferences. I must know this to prioritize what I will be able to do. I would appreciate whether you could also communicate to me whether you would be a month or bi-monthly supporter of the skincare lines. Thanks for getting back to me in a timely fashion.

Some of you may have heard that I won a prestigious award from LuxLife luxury magazine at the end of 2021~The Global Excellence Award~ if you would like to see it:

Raven Hill Botanicals Will Be Closing its Doors with the coming of the new year

12/13/2021

Picture
Raven Hill Botanicals has had a good run. Now it is time to close a chapter on what has absorbed every ounce of my love, attention, and energy over the last eight years. I have given my body and soul to my little business, but a person needs to know when to step back and not prolong an inevitable ending.

My products are handcrafted with the freshest and purest of ingredients and love! I carefully select and harvest organic and wildcrafted ingredients with each formula, including herbs and flowers from my botanical gardens and wildcrafted from the surrounding mountain meadows and woodlands. I then infuse selected herbs into aloe vera and skin-nutritive oils for a minimum of 4-6 weeks. To make the most active and effective natural products available, I add additional plant extracts, antioxidant plants, seed oils, and skin-supporting nutrients. Only organic ingredients and pure therapeutic-grade essential oils are used in my formulas. It is very costly, to say the least!

Over the years, I have carefully developed each formula in my repertoire with my customers in mind. My brochure states: Raven Hill Botanicals is a cottage industry born out of the need to lead an existential life in nature, surrounded by beauty and nature's bounty. It was also born out of the need to know what was going into my body and skincare products. I assumed others might feel the same. Our formulas are unique! The oils alone are known for their amazing healing, conditioning, and anti-aging properties to revitalize the skin. Add to that the botanical extracts, and most importantly, the exquisite and rare healing essential oils, and you have excellent nature skincare. Our products feel so different--so alive with a distinct energetic vibration! I have tried my best to educate people on what goes into making these exquisite products. However, still, people do not want to buy because they believe my products are too expensive. With this in mind, I must say that I am not even breaking even anymore.

I started Raven Hill Botanicals with my Signature Herbal Healing Salves & Balms and began making soaps, lotions, and eventually facial skincare, later on I dabbled in aromatherapy by signing up as a Wellness Advocate with doTERRA.  I wanted to share these products with others and establish a synergistic way of life with my career. I have been responsible for each step of the process, from the herbal infusions to the bottling, labeling, marketing of the products. The exhaustive work of the gardens, the freedom of walking in nature foraging for herbs, barks, and wildflowers make my products unique and beautiful skincare that grace your face and body~all of this I do alone without assistance and on a minimal budget. As hard as I try to market with all of the limitations and supply and shipping issues of the worldwide pandemic has only exacerbated the situation. It is not sustainable for me to continue like this. I have only continued on this last couple of years because of my stubborn tenacity. I have done it for my loyal customers who depend on my unique formulations, but I cannot do it anymore. I am sorry.

You will still be able to shop in my online store until we have sold everything in stock. I made a lot of goat milk soaps, beautifully packaged for the holiday season. When the current inventory is gone, I will close the store. I will still have the website to connect with people who would like to come out and visit in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. I will possibly start giving classes on foraging and Aromatherapy. For now, I will close by saying that the last eight years have been some of the most fulfilling years of my life~living the life I love and loving the life I live. It is time to do something different now. Blessings to all of my beloved and loyal customers. I will miss you!

Thanksgiving is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the simple life… a true folk-festival that speaks the poetry of the turn of the seasons, the beauty of seedtime and harvest, the ripe product of the year — and the deep, deep connection of all these things with God   ~Ray Stannard Baker

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year because it reminds us to give thanks and to count our blessings. Suddenly, so many things become so little when we realize how blessed and lucky we are.~ Joyce Giraud

Raven Hill Botanicals is a cottage industry born out to the need to lead an existential life in nature surrounded by beauty and nature's bounty. It was also born out of the need to know what was going into my body and skincare products. It has been nearly eight years now, and I am still in business because of loyal customers like you. Thank you! Your purchases sustain my business existence.

With every purchase we make, we choose not only what we want to put on or in our body, but who and what we support and what defines us as a person and as a community. In addition to creating the best natural skincare possible, I am committed to creating a better, more sustainable, and beautiful world. All of our products are made with the freshest and finest of ingredients, and Love! Try our products and see results~beautiful, youthful, glowing skin and healing from skin conditions with our herbal healing salves and balms.

What makes our products unique?
Our formulas are unique! The oils alone are known for their amazing healing, conditioning, and anti-aging properties to revitalize the skin. Add to that the botanical extracts, infusions, and most importantly, the exquisite and rare healing essential oils, and you have excellent natural skincare. Our products feel so different than the average organic skincare ~ so alive with a distinct energetic vibration!

Organic Botanical Aromatherapy Body & Facial Skincare

PURE
We carefully select organic and wildcrafted ingredients--including herbs and plant extracts, to ensure that they continue to meet our standards of purity and sustainability. We use organic ingredients and pure therapeutic-grade essential oils.
WILD
Many of the herbs used in our formulas are harvested from our gardens or sustainably wildcrafted from the surrounding mountain meadows and woodlands. We then infuse selected herbs into either organic aloe vera or olive oil for 4-6 weeks for skin nutritive extracts. These infusions are used as a potent base for all our skincare products and healing salves and balms. We then add additional selected natural plant extracts, high antioxidant plant and seed oils, skin-supporting nutrients, and aromatherapy to make the most active and effective natural products available.
BEAUTIFUL
We all want to feel beautiful and fresh. Nourish and cleanse your skin naturally with worry-free formulas with real results. Ingredients grown the way nature intended. We maintain beauty in all we do to uphold the integrity of our products. Find our ingredients lists on our website: About Our Products

Surviving these trying times of the pandemic of 2020

Dear friends of Raven Hill Botanicals,
The holidays are upon us, and it will be like no other year in our lifetime because of the pandemic. During this unprecedented time of social isolation and the hardships that so many of us are enduring, I felt it essential to let you know the developments here at Raven Hill Botanicals. First, I'd like to explain my humble beginnings and why our products' integrity means so much to me, and why I feel the need to take a step back after the holidays for a bit until the economy begins to recover. I am very proud of my cottage industry, where I  am responsible for all aspects of my business, from wildcrafting the herbs and formulation of the products to production and marketing. I also formulate all of the unique proprietary essential oil blends. The products' integrity is my bottom line, so I will need to take the appropriate actions until the situation changes. Please feel free to contact me at info@ravenhillbotanicals.com with comments, questions, and feedback.

Throughout the year, starting as early as February, I have already been experiencing a lower than usual sales volume due to the situation's general instability. However, I continue with my business's struggle to survive this crisis, but it has not been easy. Together we can get through this because with every purchase you make; you are given a choice, not only about what you want to put on or in your body, but who and what you want to support and what defines us as a community. Thank you for your on-going support of my cottage industry. Your purchase ensures its existence.

Some changes in my life circumstances have proved challenging but manageable up to this point with the on-going rigors of the pandemic and dealing with family matters that include the full in-home care of my elderly parents in their home. I will try my best to continue to offer most of my Signature products but bear in mind that the turnaround time on shipping will be a little longer. Some products will be unavailable for a period, so order early if ordering Christmas or Hanukah gifts.

I have a fantastic selection of my Signature products, which include facial skincare, body care, healing salves and balms, essential oil blends, as well as goat milk soaps. I encourage my loyal customers to take advantage of the discount coupons that I have nearly every week through my newsletter. If you are not yet a member of the Raven Hill Botanicals family, please sign up for our weekly newsletters and look for news, new products to be launched there, as well as weekly discount codes and special sales. Raven Hill Botanicals products make wonderful gifts.
